The Gartner listings (Capterra, Software Advice and GetApp) show 5.0 from only 2 reviews, dated June 2021 and July 2022. That is 17 product reviews in total for a platform that now sells three plans. Ratings, review counts, sub-scores and review dates were read from G2, Capterra, Software Advice and GetApp in September 2026, and plan details from trustlayer.io/plans on the same date. We have no reviews of our own on these directories and do not publish a rating for COISoftware.

What the TrustLayer Rating Does and Does Not Tell You

The scores are high and the reviewers are clearly real customers. Four facts about where those scores come from decide how much weight they deserve in a 2026 shortlist.

Seventeen reviews in total

G2 lists 15 reviews at 4.8 and the shared Gartner listing lists 2 at 5.0. For comparison, the illumend (formerly myCOI) listing carries 47 reviews on Capterra alone. A small base means one or two unhappy customers would move the average a long way, in either direction.

The Gartner reviews are four years old

The two Capterra and Software Advice reviews date from June 2021 and July 2022, one from a 501 to 1,000 employee insurance organization and one from a 2 to 10 employee utilities business. Neither reviewer used the current Starter, Pro and Complete plan structure or the AI document features TrustLayer now leads with.

Three different products share the name

G2 also lists TrustLayer Web Security, and SoftwareReviews lists TrustLayer Email, a cloud email security product. Neither is the COI tracking platform at trustlayer.io. If a review mentions phishing or web filtering, it is about a different company.

The top result is about the employer

For the search trustlayer reviews, a Glassdoor page often ranks first. Those 9 reviews rate TrustLayer as a place to work, not as software. They say nothing about certificate accuracy, renewals or support for customers.

Most criticism comes from rivals

The detailed negative write-ups about TrustLayer on page one are published by competitors, chiefly the Jones alternatives article. Its points are worth testing, but they are a competitor describing a competitor, not independent reviews.

None of this makes TrustLayer a weak product. The reviewers who did write in are enthusiastic, and TrustLayer is one of the few COI platforms that lets you use it free before talking to anyone. It does mean the rating answers a narrow question. If you are already leaning toward switching rather than validating, our TrustLayer alternative page sets the models side by side, and TrustLayer pricing covers what each plan actually costs to find out.

What Reviewers Praise, and What They Flag

The themes below recur across the G2 reviews and the two Gartner reviews. Gartner sub-scores from the shared listing: ease of use 5.0, customer support 5.0, value for money 5.0, functionality 4.5.

Praised: fast to learn

The most repeated compliment. One Software Advice reviewer called it "very user friendly", and G2 reviewers describe picking the platform up in about an hour and finding it easier to set up than alternatives they tried.

Praised: collection on autopilot

Automated requests and follow-up emails to vendors, plus document scanning, are described as saving hours each week and freeing risk teams from chasing certificates by hand.

Praised: support that finds workarounds

Several reviewers single out the support team as responsive and willing to find a workaround when a feature does not quite fit, which matters more than usual on a small, fast-changing product.

Flagged: master-level control

A Software Advice reviewer wished they could "make changes at the master level" and switch off organizational compliance they did not need. Teams running many locations or member organizations should test bulk edits early.

Flagged by a rival: reading accuracy

Jones, a competitor, reports former TrustLayer customers describing OCR errors on complex certificates and says human expert review costs extra. TrustLayer does sell that review separately as TrustLayer Plus, so ask what is included in your plan.

Flagged by a rival: reporting depth

The same Jones article says customers lacked reporting on why vendors were non compliant. TrustLayer now lists BI reporting on Pro and up to 7 custom BI reports on Complete, so the answer depends on the plan you are quoted.

Put the two columns together and a pattern appears. The praise is about workflow: easy setup, automated chasing, friendly support. The criticism, most of it second hand, is about judgment: how well the software reads difficult certificates and endorsements, and what it costs to have a person do it. That is the same fault line that runs through the whole category, and it is the question to settle in any trial. For how staffed review is priced across vendors, see COI tracking software with human review. For endorsement pages specifically, COI endorsement verification software compares which platforms claim to read them at all.

How to Check TrustLayer Reviews Against Your Own Program

Seventeen reviews cannot answer your question. These four steps can, and most of them cost nothing.

1

Use the free Starter tier as your review

TrustLayer publishes a Starter plan that is free up to 50 vendors, with 10 dollars per additional vendor per month above that. Load ten real vendors, including your messiest certificates, and judge collection, expiration tracking and messaging yourself.

Tip: Starter lacks the BI reporting, integrations and AI smart requirements that sit in Pro, so note which features you could not test.

2

Ask what reads the endorsements

Ask whether your quote includes human review or software only, and whether TrustLayer Plus, its licensed-professional service, is part of it. Reviews that praise accuracy may come from Plus customers.

Tip: Ask every vendor on your list the same question. We have no human reviewers and say so.

3

Ask for a reference on the current plans

Request a customer who started on Pro or Complete in the last twelve months, in your industry and at roughly your vendor count. The Gartner reviews predate the current plan names.

Tip: If the reference is a broker partner rather than a direct customer, ask how the account is billed.

4

Test the flagged weak spots

In the trial or demo, try one bulk requirement change across locations and pull a non-compliance report that explains why each vendor fails. Those are the two gaps reviewers and rivals mention.

Tip: Do the same test in our demo on the same certificates, so the comparison is fair.

When the TrustLayer Reviews Should Reassure You

You want to try before you talk to sales

TrustLayer is unusual in the category for letting you start free: the Starter tier covers up to 50 vendors with expirations, renewals, messaging, basic reporting and AI document collection. A small team can run its real program on it for a quarter. That does more to validate the product than any number of directory reviews, and the reviews that exist say the setup is quick.

You work through an insurance broker

TrustLayer runs a broker pricing program in which a broker brings a client and a TrustLayer rep runs a pricing calculator with them. One of the two Gartner reviewers works in insurance. If your broker already uses it, the onboarding path is well worn.

You are a contractor on Procore, CMiC or Vista

The Pro plan names Procore, CMiC and Vista Viewpoint integrations. For a general contractor whose subcontractor records already live in one of those systems, that is a practical reason to shortlist it. Our best COI tracking software for construction page compares that lane in detail.

When they should not

If you run a few hundred vendors, the reviews are silent on cost, the Starter overage of 10 dollars per vendor per month adds up fast, and Pro has no published figure. If your contracts turn on endorsement wording, the reviews do not describe how the software reads endorsements at all. In both cases the quicker evidence is a test on your own certificates, which is what the tool at the top of this page does. The TrustLayer vs Evident comparison shows how the one other vendor with a public rate card prices the same job.

TrustLayer Reviews FAQ

TrustLayer reviews are positive but few. G2 shows 4.8 out of 5 from 15 reviews and the Capterra and Software Advice listing shows 5.0 from 2. Reviewers praise ease of use, automated vendor follow-up and responsive support. The one recurring complaint is limited master-level control over requirements across locations.

Yes. TrustLayer is a real COI tracking and insurance verification platform at trustlayer.io, with published plans, a free Starter tier and verified customer reviews on G2 and Capterra. Be careful not to confuse it with TrustLayer Email and TrustLayer Web Security, which are unrelated security products with their own reviews.

Direct user complaints are rare because there are only 17 product reviews. The one in the Gartner reviews is limited master-level editing and no way to switch off organizational compliance. Competitor Jones reports former customers citing OCR errors on complex certificates, extra cost for human review and thin non-compliance reporting. Treat those as a rival's claims to test.

Up to 50 vendors, yes. TrustLayer Starter is free for up to 50 vendors, covering expirations and renewals, messaging, basic reporting, custom data and AI document collection. Above 50, its Starter page states a charge of 10 dollars per additional vendor per month applies. Pro and Complete are paid plans with no published figure.

TrustLayer is free up to 50 vendors, then 10 dollars per additional vendor per month on Starter, so 100 vendors would cost 500 dollars a month. Pro and Complete have no published price and are quoted after a demo, and trustlayer.io/pricing returns a 404. COISoftware starts at 49 dollars a month.

Yes, as a separate service. TrustLayer Plus provides a team of licensed insurance professionals who handle document collection, review and follow-up, and it is listed as an optional add-on to the Pro and Complete plans. Ask whether a quote includes Plus, because accuracy on endorsements depends on it.

For very small programs it is one of the better fits in the category, because the Starter tier is free up to 50 vendors. Past that point you move to Pro, which requires a demo for pricing. Small teams that need a paid plan with a visible price usually compare it against self-serve tools.

It depends on why you are looking. Evident publishes a per-vendor rate with endorsement checking on its Pro tier. CertFocus sells credentialed human review with published minimums. COISoftware is self-serve from 49 dollars a month with a free 10-document demo. The best COI tracking software roundup compares fifteen platforms.
